Dedications, Groundbreakings, and Campus Planning

“The launch of this campaign is a moment of great pride as we rededicate ourselves to the limitless promise of a Catholic and Jesuit education. The remarkable support that we have already received from donors speaks to the commitment, enthusiasm and generous spirit of giving that have sustained Scranton for 120 years and that will propel this great university into a new era of educational excellence.”

Pride, Passion, Promise Campaign Gala, April 2008

In 2008, The University of Scranton unveiled a capital campaign of unprecedented magnitude that transformed the campus and secured the future of the 120-year-old Catholic and Jesuit University. Announcement of the $100 million Pride, Passion, Promise Campaign was made at a gala held on campus on April 26, 2008. The University publicly launched the campaign with record support from benefactors who had already committed $68 million to Scranton’s largest ever fundraising initiative. Among the funds raised were $50 million from just 51 donors, including 14 gifts and pledges of $1,000,000 or more.

The Pride, Passion, Promise Campaign was the most ambitious capital campaign in the University’s history and surpassed its $125 million fundraising goal. Transformational capital projects during Father Pilarz’s tenure as the 24th President included the Patrick and Margaret DeNaples Center; the Christopher and Margaret Condron Hall; the John and Jacquelyn Dionne Campus Green; the expansion of the Retreat Center at Chapman Lake, Montrone Hall and the building named in his honor, Pilarz Hall, on Mulberry Street; and the Loyola Science Center.
