A Gift and a Theme
Back in November of last year, when the gift of the Scranton mansion and its grounds was made to the University of Scranton by Worthington Scranton, Bishop William Hafey, speaking at a Community Chest luncheon, chose the theme, "There Will Always Be a Scranton." Several nights ago, at the annual commencement exercises of the university, Mr. Scranton was presented with the university medal for his benefaction.
Bishop Hafey's theme of almost a year ago still holds good in its application to Mr. Scranton's gift. There will, indeed, always be a Scranton, because Scranton will always have the type of person interested in its progress and unselfishly devoted to its development as represented by Worthington Scranton. Mr. Scranton's gift doubly insures the continuance of an institution known throughout the nation for its academic standards and the ability of its alumni. The spirit of his gift is a reminder that our citizens are dedicated to the well-being of their community.
