Meeting a Growing Community Need
THE UNIVERSITY OF SCRANTON
Scranton, Pennsylvania
The first step in the University of Scranton's $5,000,000 expansion program was Loyola Hall, a modern three-story science building on the grounds of the Scranton estate. Completed in 1956 at a cost of more than $1,200,000, it was the most urgently needed building of the University and replaced barracks-type structures.
The new structure has 53 rooms including 19 laboratories and three lecture halls with graduated seating. Striking in appearance, it has seemingly suspended stairways of black and white terrazzo and similar construction along with marble chip slabs in the foyers.
Four new student resident halls were opened last September at Quincy Avenue and Linden Street. They were completed at a cost of $757,000 and provide 100 bedrooms and study quarters.
WE ARE ALL PARTNERS IN PROGRESS!
The sensational growth of our School and College age population since World War II presents a growing community need that public and private educational organizations are meeting with commendable efficiency.
Expanding populations mean expanding services by your Blue Cross as well. Hospital care is more in demand today than ever before...more beds are occupied, more equipment is used, more personnel is required. And costs are higher! Blue Cross keeps abreast of these growing needs by continuing to provide for necessary hospital services you must have to get well. Despite larger hospital bills and more of them, many Blue Cross members under the "All Service" agreement often find their hospital care paid for in full... if they do owe anything the bill has usually been substantially reduced. By keeping its benefits in line with today's needs, Blue Cross makes an important contribution to a more stable and a healthier, happier community.
