Ground is broken at the University of Scranton for a classroom building to be constructed at the corner of Linden Street and Jefferson Avenue. The four-story facility will feature 16 general classrooms, a 180-seat lecture hall and a large bookstore. The project is being funded by the University's "Second Cornerstone" capital development campaign. From left, Mayor David Wenzel, the Rev. J. A. Panuska, SJ, university president; Scranton Times and Sunday Times co-publisher Edward J. Lynett Jr., vice chairman of the board of trustees, and Lackawanna County Commissioner Joseph Corcoran.
