Dear Friend of the University:
You are cordially invited to attend the groundbreaking ceremony for our new classroom building on Friday, April 10, 1987, at 9:30 a.m. The site of the new facility is at the corner of Linden Street and Jefferson Avenue.
When we engaged in our early planning for our Second Cornerstone Campaign, it was very clear to us that a new classroom facility was one of our more urgent needs. This $3,000,000 building, with its impressive design, will be a welcome addition to our growing list of new facilities and will also be helpful to the downtown revitalization. We know that you rejoice with us in the fact that this commitment to the City of Scranton will provide increased employment for our citizens both in the initial construction phases and in future operations.
Current classroom utilization at the University is far above the national average and allows too little scheduling flexibility. Moreover, some of the space being used for classrooms was not originally designed for that purpose, and the increasingly busy west side of campus is not well served by classroom facilities.
This new structure will house 17 general classrooms, a 100-seat elevated classroom, an expanded bookstore, a conference room and a dining room. The new building will also free other space for much needed faculty and administrative offices in O'Hara Hall.
I hope you can be with us as we officially begin construction of this facility.
With every best wish,
Sincerely,
J.A. Panuska, S.J.
