Description
Photograph (ca. 1957) of the University of Scranton's first student residences (Martin, McCourt, and Fitch Halls), located on the 300 block of Quincy Avenue. The three houses, purchased in May 1955, served as student residences until 1958 when the lower quad of dormitories was constructed across the street. The names of these converted residence homes were then transferred to the new residence halls, which are the current Martin, McCourt, and Fitch Halls. The old houses were then razed in December 1958 order to build the Gunster Memorial Student Center. Local historian Jack Shean has identified the buildings (left to right) as the onetime residences of Henry A. Knapp, a lawyer and vice president of the Scranton Trust Company, Henry V. Logan, a local physician, and C. D. Sanderson, an area stockbroker.
