French Leaf from a Pocket Bible ca. 1230-1240

This script features decorative ascenders and ligatures. There are different variations of the letter “d” ranging from uncial to vertical.

The "VA" in red in the margin and the "CAT" in the bottom line together mean "vacat", or cancel. The scribe is indicating to the viewer that anything in between those two letters was a scribal error and needs to be cancelled.
