English Leaf from a Pocket Bible ca. 1250-1275
The leaf shows guide numbers, abbreviations, and you can see the indent marks where the manuscript was sewn together near line 27. Pocket bibles began being used in the 13th century after parchment makers were able to produce thinner vellum, which fit more pages into a single binding. Biblical scribes also began using abbreviations, which allowed for more text per page.
