Women in the Counseling Center
One specific instance of the University promoting women in staff and faculty is during an expansion of the Counseling Center. In 1972, the Counseling Center expanded, and two women joined the staff. This is major because these are the first women to join the center. It also caused mental health resources to grow for students, as the number of available counselors went from two to four. Not to mention that with the shift of the center away from career vocations and towards the college student, women joining the staff would be a huge deal. Students can feel more comfortable as they have a choice now in which gender, they would like for them to counsel them. With this, the addition of women not only was groundbreaking, but also provided additional benefits to the University beyond fulfilling the goals of affirmative action.
