Friendship Program

In  1991, Peter Blazes the director of International Student Affairs designs the Friendship Program  aimed to help students from abroad adjust American culture.  This Friendship Program was specifally set up surrounding families in the Scranton area. These families opened their homes for the weekends so that if the student desired to go over and spend time off campus. Their offered themselves for phonecalls when students want to talk about their day or vent about their current struggles. When opening their homes they dont limit it to days when students are actively attending classes, they offer their homes during holiday breaks like Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years.  This effort and involvment by not only the University but the city of Scranton shows how important it was to make the students that are away from home feel more at home.
