Black Culture Club
This article, from the student led newspaper The Aquinas, tells of the formation of a new club. Atop the page in bold font reads “Students form Black Culture Club; first meeting set for tomorrow.” It goes on to say that this formation of the Black Culture Club is a step towards providing the first social and cultural organization for minority students at the University. Up until this point, the University had many clubs and organizations, but this was to be the first of its kind. As stated in the article: “Although black students are active in many facets of the University, the club provides an organization to which they can belong collectively.” This source is valuable in the sense that this is the first mention of the recognition that a space for students of color may be needed or is wanted at the University of Scranton.
