About

My name is Shelby Traver and I am a recent graduate of the University of Scranton. I majored in International Business, Political Science, and Philosophy and, through the Gail and Francis Slattery Center for the Ignatian Humanities, I decided to pursue a text based analysis of contemporary political documents, tracing their roots back to the early modern period. I did this because, especially today, it is so important to realize that our traditions did not come from nowhere and that these traditions evolved over time. Western traditions are neither new nor identical to their sources. Through this project, I was able to combine my passion for political science with my strong philosophical background to show the evolution of early modern political philosophy to now, demonstrating the evolution toward a more just world.

I was advised by Dr. Christopher Fremaux, assistant professor in the University of Scranton's philosophy department whose research focus is on early modern moral theory, especially Kant and his German/Prussian contemporaries and predecessors.
